How do I get another copy of my Snood Registration Code?
+ If your e-mail address is the same as when you registered, go to www.snood.com/resend and enter your e-mail address. A copy of your Snood Registration Code will automatically be sent to your e-mail address. If your e-mail address has changed, then send us an e-mail at responder1@snood.com and tell us your name, your old e-mail address and the approximate date that you ordered. We will manually search our records and send you another copy of your Snood Registration Code.

How do I speed up Snood on Win XP?
In the Snood program directory, right-click on the snood.exe icon. Click on Properties; click the tab for Compatibility and do both of these: (a) Check "Run this program in compatibility mode" and select "Windows 98".

If that alone does not fix the problem do this also at the same place: (b) Under "Display settings "check" Run in 256 colors."

If that doesn't help, then try updating your display driver.

How do I subscribe/unsubscribe/modify my e-mail address on your mailing list?
+ Just go to our Mailing List Manager.

I was double billed on my credit card. How do I get a credit?
+ Please send us an e-mail at responder1@snood.com with details about your order including your name, the first 2 and last 4 numbers of your credit card account, the amount charged and the date the charges posted.

I downloaded the game, but can't find it?
+ What you download should be an installer. For the PC versions, this will be a program (.exe file) which you need to run to install Snood on your PC. For the Mac, it is a self-extracting archive program (.sea) that you need to run to decompress and install Snood. You can search for Snood on your computer - if you find a program called

"SnoodWinBetaInstall" (PC) or "Snood21.sea" (Mac), go ahead and run it to install Snood. If you don't find anything with your search, go ahead and download the appropriate version again from: www.snood.org/downloads.htm.

You might want to make sure you save this file somewhere that you can find it. On a PC, click on the download link with your RIGHT mouse button (not the left one you normally use) and a menu should show up. There will be an option that is something like "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As...". Pick that option, and specify a place to save the installer that you can find again (your desktop is probably a good place). On a Mac, click on the download link and hold down the mouse button until the menu comes up. Then pick "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As..." as above.

I get an error message when I run Snood that says "A required file, XXX, was not found." Where XXX is DINPUT.DLL, DSOUND.DLL, DDRAW.DLL, or similar. What do I need to do?
+ You need the DirectX library - it's available at http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/information/. DirectX is a graphics library which allows for fast graphics in Windows. It comes with recent versions of Windows, but it didn't come with some versions of Windows 95.

My version of Snood is not registered. When i go to play it there is a little box that says for example "You've played 46 games that's $0.12 a game." Does it actually cost money? Again I am not registered and I just play for fun against my self.
Snood is shareware. That means you can download and play it for free -- for 30 days. After that, please either remove it from your computer or register by paying $14.95 (cheap!).

The message is telling you how many games you have played so far and what the cost per game would be if you register. You are not being charged for the games. You are being reminded of just how inexpensive Snood is and how much you are playing!

My version of Snood doesn't have all the levels my friends have. Why not?
Everybody downloads is the same version of Snood! You might be talking about the puzzle levels. Try going to the Difficulty menu and picking "Puzzle" difficulty - that might solve your issue.

I cannot get Snood to start playing. What do I need to do?
If you've installed Snood, you should be able to pick "New Game" from the Game menu or click on the New Game button.

I found the new Snood version and downloaded the latest version for Windows but when I hit the icon, I get an error message: "Cannot find C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\SNOOD2-1.0\SNOOD.EXE." What do I need to do?
What probably happened is that you uninstalled the old version but the shortcut didn't get erased, so you are getting that error when you try the shortcut. Look under your Programs menu under the Start menu and see if there's anything else about Snood there, and try all the possibilities - one of them should run the new program. If that doesn't work, do a "Find File" for Snood and look for "Snood.exe", a program with a little blue head icon. That should run it directly.

I tried to install Snood quite some time ago and it seems to have been partially installed but it is taking up a lot of room so I want to delete it. The uninstaller is not working. What do I do?
Snood does not take up much room - it's only about 1.5 megabytes. Everything Snood installs is in the directory you selected when you installed Snood (default is c:\Program Files\Snood) so you can just delete that directory to uninstall. You may also be left with an item on your start menu, in which case you can delete it by picking Start->Settings->Task Bar and removing the Snood folder.

Snood doesn't have a certificate and I'm afraid to install and run this program. Can you assure me that it's all right to run and install?
Yes, Snood is safe. It's been checked by up-to-date virus software, and over 2500 people download it daily.

I want to register my copy of Snood (or purchase Snood merchandise), but I don't want to use my credit card over the Internet. How do I pay?
Go to www.snood.org/check.html.

It is my birthday, I'm too young to have money, I love Snood, blah, blah, blah. Please, pretty please with sugar on top, send me a free registration code?
No. I'm glad you enjoy the game. I'm sorry, I don't give out free registrations for it.

:: Macintosh Questions

My mouse cursor shows up during the game, and it's really distracting. How can I get rid of it?
This seems to be a new problem under System 8.5.1, and I just bought an iMac, so I'll work on fixing it. On My iMac, it seems to be related to the taskbar - whenever the mouse goes over the taskbar, it appears. So, making the taskbar small and moving it away from Snood's window seem to help. If you do get the cursor to show up, you may be able to get rid of the cursor by either (1) pausing the game and un-pausing it (hit command-P twice) or (2) switching the game to Total Control mode under the Game Preferences under the Preferences menu.

Snood is pretty slow on my Mac. How can I speed it up?
Snood is set to use a reasonable amount of free memory. It should work fine on most 68040 and PPC Macs set to 256 colors (see "Out of Memory" error below). It may run more slowly on other 68K Macs, such as the IICX, IICI, IISI, and the LC III. Some users report slightly choppy play on 68040 and PPC Macs, however, and report that setting Snood's memory allotment (use "Get Info" on Snood in the Finder) to about 5 megabytes smooths things out. If you are noticing some small slow periods in game play on a newer Mac, try giving Snood a bit more memory and see if that helps.

Snood crashes a lot on my PowerMac 7200. Why?
One user reported that Snood was conflicting with an extension called 7200 Graphics Acceleration. Turning that off seems to solve the problem with Snood.

Why am I getting an "Out of Memory" message?
If you run Snood at high screen depths, you may get a message telling you that Snood is out of memory and needs an increase. To do this, select Snood in the Finder and pick "Get Info" from the file menu. Then add the appropriate amount of memory to the "preferred" box. Under 256 colors, Snood needs only about four megabytes. Under thousands of colors, Snood needs about six megabytes. My monitor won't do millions of colors, but a few more megabytes should work. Snood at thousands or millions of colors won't look any different from 256 colors.

Why is Snood behaving strangely?
If you have any other problems with Snood (freezes, odd behavior) during game play, try putting Snood in "Total Control" mode (under Game Preferences in the Preferences Menu). This mode is more stable than "Background Friendly" mode. If you're using system 7.5 on a PowerPC, you may also need this extension.

:: PC Questions

WINDOWS BETA VERSION - If you're using the Windows version, there have been two major complaints - one that the Snoods are sometimes invisible, and another that the window is too darn tiny to see anything. Those questions are addressed on the PC SNOOD PAGE .

DOS VERSION - If you're using the DOS version there is quite a bit of information in the README.TXT file, so check there. You can also run Snood with several special configurations from a DOS prompt. Here are the options you can use. Just type them after "Snood" on a MS-DOS prompt command line from within your Snood directory.

nomouse  -  Keyboard only
nosound  -  Run without sound
800  -  Set screen size to 800x600
1024  -  Set screen size to 1024x768
vesa1  -  Use VESA 1.x driver
vesa2B  -  Use VESA 2.0 binary driver
vesa2L  -  Use VESA 2.0 linear driver
sb  -  SoundBlaster card (autodetect type)
sb10  -  SoundBlaster 1.0
sb15  -  SoundBlaster 1.5
sb20  -  SoundBlaster 2.0
sb16  -  SoundBlaster 16
sbpro  -  SoundBlaster Pro

For example, to run Snood with the keyboard only, without sound, and with the simplest VESA driver, type this at the command line: snood nomouse nosound vesa1

How can I get my scores and registration code from beta version 0.9 into version 2.1/2.2?

If you want to keep your high scores with this new version, just copy the file called "snoodprf.200" from your old Snood directory into your new Snood directory. If you installed into the default directories, the old version will be in c:\snood and the new version will be in c:\program files\snood

:: General Questions

Why does Snood call me a thief? That's really rude.
The voice at the beginning is actually saying Please!, not Thief! I would never insult users that way, but many people seem to hear it as Thief! regardless.

Where did you get the name Snood?
I was looking for a silly-sounding non-trademarked name, and one of my friends had named his fantasy football team "Snood Trunion" (for no apparent reason). So, the word Snood stuck in my head, and it seemed appropriate for the game. The word actually refers either to a hair garment popular in the middle ages (and the 1940's) or to a turkey part.

When I play Snood at my friend's house, she gets multiple screens/levels. How do I get that version?
You have the correct version already! You only get multiple levels if you are playing on the Puzzle or Journey difficulty settings. If you pick Puzzle or Journey on the Difficulty menu, then you should be all set.

How do people get those astronomically high scores on the score page? Are they cheating?
For the really high scores, I think people are just not trying to win. They build up big chains of Snoods and then drop them, over and over again until they get bored and finally finish the game.

This seems kind of cheap to me, but I don't want to get in people's way if they want to play in this manner. This technique works fine for the Child, Easy, and Medium levels, but it gets difficult on the Hard and Evil levels. Journey mode prevents people from doing this. If you hear a spooky voice say "End It Now!", you've taken too long!

It also turns out that there are a couple of bugs that allow people to cheat and get higher scores, one on the Mac version and one on the PC version. As I hear of these, I'll prevent them. If you report one of these that I haven't heard of yet, I'll give you a free registration code for Snood.
